The journey to Solutions

Solutions Behavioral Healthcare Professionals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals struggling with mental health problems. Solutions places a strong emphasis on providing quality, accessible services, and meeting unmet needs in the community.

History of Solutions

In 1999, several well-established clinicians began a venture to better serve unmet mental health needs in the Red River Valley community. At that time, most agencies had long waiting lists and there was a limited number of mental health professionals. Solutions was born in the small home office of its founder, Joel Bakken. He, along with a small group of experienced yet still idealistic colleagues, had seen too many people fall through the cracks within existing bureaucratic organizations. They developed a vision for a flexible and responsive organization that was specifically designed to meet the needs of the community, rather than the community being forced to fit in with the needs of the organization.

Twenty years later, Solutions Behavioral Healthcare Professionals has grown to over 300 employees, with six offices in Minnesota serving ten counties, and offices in North Dakota serving areas of Region V. Our roots are deep and the growth is exciting!

Our well-trained clinicians are experienced in Evidence-Based Practices and in working with very difficult cases, including:

  • Specialized treatment of young children (including ages 0-5)

  • Treatment of stress/anxiety management related to medical problems, including fertility problems

  • Quality evaluation services for a wide variety of situations: general clinical and forensic

  • Standard cognitive behavioral treatment for individuals, couples, and families

As a licensed mental health clinic, Solutions voluntarily adheres to state quality assurance standards and actively promotes the use of evidence-based interventions in the provision of services. Treatment for a variety of conditions is provided at Solutions, including for conditions such as:
